Right, I am the type of girl that, when faced with a problem has a tendency to want to go and find a book on it in order to be able to solve said problem. It kind of emerged around the time I did my GCSEs. Sometimes this has brought success (cooking, how to use my camera, how to get stains out of things), other times not (how to work a baby). The picture you see accompanying this post is merely the surface of my collection. All the classics are there… Hogg, Ford, Frost. Plus some lesser known geniuses. Yes, I even bought books from the bibliographies of some of this tomes. (Some dude called Weissbluth “inspired” Gina Ford… I wanted to see if he was as much of a beeeaatch.. he kind of isn’t, but he does have a very “man-y” approach. I also have a Kindle, which now contains the Wonder Weeks, Happiest baby on the block bla bla bla. I think I’m close to having read the definitive works on babies. Do I now know what I’m doing. Do I heck! This is the point in which I’d like to switch to rant mode. WHY DOES NO-ONE “ACTUALLY” KNOW HOW TO WORK A BABY?????? They’ve been around for billions of years. Waaaaay longer than cars or compoooters. Why has no dude sussed them out? Harvey Karp promised me a no fail, stop crying solution. It DID fail. I swaddled, swang, swooshed, etc.. still WAAAAAAA.. just now its waaaa with my arms aching. Don’t even get me started on Colic. So, neither of my babies I think had it.. but WHY WHY WHY in 2013 when geniuses walk the earth does this still have to be explained as “unexplained crying”??? Scientists can genetically modify vegetables. Gigantic aeroplanes take to the skies full of people AND their luggage. WHY. IS. THAT. ICKLE. BABY. STILL. CRYING. Experts… please sort it out. I think one day I might write a book on babies. I will call it this: “Don’t get your hopes up Mum, there are no answers, but I’ll tell you a good joke about a pair of pants on page 23”. Anyway rant over. If babying had a GCSE, I’d be able to write an A+ essay, and I would be able to do it whilst my baby cried beside me 🙂 (the happiest baby on the block is a few doors down alledgedly).
Baby books by experts… BAH!
